It has been so cold and wet recently, making Lost Creek the center of attention for most of us. But while most of us are ready for summer, I love the cold, rainy season because the food is SO MUCH BETTER! Hot, comfort food is the best, and a yummy warm breakfast can be the perfect distraction from the mess outside. Here are a few local recipes I have found to be my favorites!

Cheese Grits & Sausage Breakfast Casserole

Ingredients

2 pounds bulk Italian sausage
2 cups water
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cups quick-cooking grits
1 pound sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup 2% milk
1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon rubbed sage
6 large eggs, beaten

Sausage-Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole

Yield: Makes 10 servings

Ingredients

1 pound mild ground pork sausage

1 pound hot ground pork sausage

1 (30-ounce) package frozen hash browns

1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

6 large eggs

2 cups milk
